The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route” is the most straight forward path to Kilimanjaro’s summit. This route features hut accommodations, offering shelter and comfort throughout the climb.

Arrival at Kilimanjaro Int’l Airport (JRO)

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be greeted by one of our representatives. Transfer to your booked hotel in Moshi, a charming town at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Relax and enjoy a detailed pre-trek briefing from your guide. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Elevation: 6,046 ft to 8,858 ft | Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: 8 km | 5 miles | Habitat: Rain Forest 

After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate (1-2 hours) for registration and permits. Begin your trek through the lush rainforest filled with towering trees, vibrant ferns, and wildlife like colobus monkeys and exotic birds. Arrive at Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop on the climb.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Elevation: 8,858 ft to 12,205 ft | Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Distance: 12 km | 7 miles | Habitat: Heath 

Leave the rainforest behind as the trail leads to the open heath and moorland zone. Enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding landscape as you ascend. Arrive at Horombo Hut, where you’ll have dinner and rest for the night.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Elevation: 12,205 ft to 15,419 ft | Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Distance: 10 km | 6 miles | Habitat: Alpine Desert 

Today’s trek takes you across the stark, desolate Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. The terrain becomes more challenging as you enter the alpine desert zone. Arrive at Kibo Hut, the base camp for your summit attempt. Rest, hydrate, and have an early dinner to prepare for the midnight ascent.

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak:

Elevation: 15,419 ft to 19,341 ft | Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Distance: 6 km | 4 miles | Habitat: Arctic

Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut:

Elevation: 19,341 ft to 12,205 ft | Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
Distance: 16 km | 10 miles | Habitat: Heath 

Begin your summit attempt around midnight, trekking through the cold, dark slopes with headlamps lighting the path. Reach Gilman’s Point (18,652 ft), where you’ll witness a magnificent sunrise. Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19,341 ft.After celebrating and taking photos, descend to Kibo Hut for a short rest and lunch. Then continue your descent to Horombo Hut for dinner and a well-deserved night’s sleep.

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Elevation: 12,205 ft to 6,046 ft | Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
Distance: 20 km | 12 miles | Habitat: Rain Forest 

Descend through the moorland and lush rainforest back to Marangu Gate. Here, you’ll receive your summit certificate to commemorate your achievement. A vehicle will transfer you back to Moshi for relaxation and celebration of your successful climb.
